More about the life and passing of Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” O’Malley:
Dorothy P. (Rogan) O’Malley, “Dot”, age 88 of King of Prussia, retired Mother of Divine Providence school secretary, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. She was born in Philadelphia on October 28, 1927 daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Gavinska) Rogan. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick F. O’Malley Sr. for 60 years. Dot was raised in the Yeadon section of Philadelphia moving to Manayunk after her father died. She graduated from St. John the Baptist High School. She worked for several years as an executive secretary for Curtis Publishing. Dot and her beloved husband, Fred raised their family in King of Prussia, where she resided for 62 years. She was a founding member of Mother of Divine Providence Parish. Throughout the infancy of the parish, she volunteered as a parish secretary composing the church bulletins and organizing the finances. Dot then worked in the school as the school secretary. She volunteered, worked and was active in the parish for over 45 years. Even after retirement, she actively helped out in various capacities. She was a member of the MDP Woman’s Guild, where she received the 1966 Woman of the Year Award; Altar and Rosary Society; and recipient of the John A. Vogt Outstanding Sportsmanship Award in 1981. In short, Mrs. O’Malley (as the children knew her), loved all things to do with Mother of Divine Providence Parish and the youth that passed through the school, doing everything she could for the parish/school and then some! She also enjoyed traveling; knitting & crocheting; reading; crossword puzzles; Jeopardy and was an avid sports fan, who closely followed Notre Dame, Navy and all Philadelphia sports teams. She is survived by: a son, Frederick F. O’Malley Jr. of Pottstown; 2 daughters, Mary H. O’Malley of King of Prussia and Dorothy (Dean) Maurer of King of Prussia; a granddaughter, Patricia; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Rovar. Relatives and friends may pay respects on Monday morning, April 11th, from 9-10:20am at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406. A funeral mass will commence at 10:30am. Interment, Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Mother Teresa Regional Catholic School (formerly Mother of Divine Providence School) at the aforementioned address. Professional arrangements are by the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken.
